Family Day 6: Faith that welcomes the victorious King
Today's Scripture
For everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God... This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of Him.”

Reflect on the Word
When we choose to follow Jesus, we step into the real yet unseen battle going on for our hearts and minds. We have an enemy, Satan, who wants to keep us away from God, trusting in ourselves instead of in God. Being in a spiritual battle means we need a power that is bigger than our own. God promises to be with us and give us what we need in every situation.
The Holy Spirit is God’s presence in us, giving us the spiritual weapons to fight against the overwhelming and scary battles we’re facing (Read 2 Cor. 10:3-5).
When Jesus died and was raised from the dead, Satan’s greatest weapon, death, was defeated. Satan is still fighting against God and His people, but he knows he will lose his war against God and will one day be completely defeated by Jesus. When we trust God and depend on the strength of His Spirit, we can know that we are on the winning team with Jesus, the victorious King!

A Game of Faith
Suggested Materials: Paper, pens, your Bible turned to Eph. 6:10-18, + a bowl or hat
How to Play
- Gather around the table. Ask each family member to write or draw 2-3 different things that feel like a battle or challenge on slips of paper. Some ideas: feeling left out at school, friendship challenges, overwhelming emotions or specific fears.
- Place the challenge slips of paper in the bowl or hat
- Take turns pulling a card from the bowl and reading the paper out loud.
- The whole family works together to "defeat" the challenge using three "weapons"
- Faith. Say something true about God
- Prayer. Say a short prayer together
- Holy Spirit power. Name a piece of armor from Eph. 6:10-18 that helps you win, and pretend to hold out that item.
- As you work through the challenges, remind yourself that there is nothing that you cannot do with the power of Christ.
